Whether you are a student who commits every waking moment to musical practice or maybe you get a chance to only practice twice during the week, if you are interested to learn, I am more than happy to help! You will hear me say let's move the ball forward during our lessons. If you come ready to absorb and integrate the information that I have, we will have a great time and you will learn! Everyone has weeks that they cannot get to the practice they wish they could, that said, come to your lesson ready to learn! I don't mind going over the same lesson that we had last week. (btw, I have taught that lesson many times!) It's the attitude that makes the difference, maybe we will play duets, maybe I will tell you a fun story, whatever direction we take if you are willing to listen, you will benefit.
I expect that you will generally practice with some degree of regularity. High School students who are thinking music is a career path, should be practicing my material for 45-60 minutes four to six times a week. High School students where music is just one of many things they enjoy, I believe you can improve with three to four -30 minute practice sessions a week. My youngest student beginners I will ask to practice 5-10 minutes a day, maybe three to four times week. I sometimes refer to a lesson where student hasn't practiced but they bring in their band music as a clinic lesson. We can do so much with a clinic lesson and you can implement those concepts typically the very next day at the band rehearsal. Bring in the simplest triangle part and I will be happy to make it harder for you ;)
Ways to motivate yourself:
Perform on a student recital
Go to a live concert
Volunteer to play at your church
Read a book about one of your favorite musicians (or google that same name and just read the various web pages that come up)
Invite a friend over and play duets
