I am so glad that you are considering lessons! Selecting a teacher is a daunting task, there are many good teachers in the Twin Cities, why should you select me?
I have 40 years of percussion teaching and performing experience, I have always loved it and still do! I enjoy working with all levels of accomplishment and all ages. If you have a plan for yourself I am happy to assist. If on the other hand your not sure how you would like to go about things, well then I have a plan for you -please see Syllabus in the Student Resource drop down menu) Like to practice a lot, great! Don't have a lot of time to practice but you want to still keep improving or you have a sports schedule that keeps getting in the way, I can work with this in a positive manner by working directly with the issues and getting right to the heart of the problem.
Frequently I am the teacher of the students who are in the top orchestras of GTCYS, MYS and the All-State Percussion students. I frequently have students selected for the adjudicated Honor's Recitals and the highest level of student accomplishment at MacPhail --being selected to perform on the annual MacPhail Concerto Concert.
I have experienced many negative percussion issues and resolved them for myself -accuracy on mallet instruments, intonation of timpani, smoothness of snare drum roll, regularity of drumset tempo to name a few! I regularly attend professional development sessions to develop my knowledge of percussion, student behaviors and motivational techniques.
I am a glass is half full type of person.
I have worked with students who eventually went on to achieve the highest levels of professional percussion playing.
Lessons are not in-expensive! However consider that a student who spent $2400 on lessons for two years (junior/senior year in high school) and then receive a $24,000, music performance scholarship to Gustavus Adolphus College. I know what colleges want to hear and can prepare you for that scholarship audition. I would say that student came out $19,600 ahead.
You will get to perform and play on excellent percussion instruments in your lessons.
MacPhail students will perform on all of the student recitals that you like. Some students prefer not to and that is fine also.
MacPhail students will be able to perform in what is deemed the finest chamber music hall in Minnesota. Antonello Hall, MacPhail Center for Music.
I will be your advocate and will give you the best advice I know.
Interested? I would recommend taking a consultation lesson or two and see if you like it. Please use the contact page to send me a note. Use the calendar page to find a time that would work for you. Anything that says AVAILABLE would be open. When you contact me, please state the date and time you would like to consult and I will confirm.
