FAQ
HI Elan,
To answer your question directly, no I don't think you should say that you are "kinda rusty as you have been busy". As a teacher who has heard this many times, it's tiring and not needed. All of the good students (including yourself) are busy and have to make choices all the time as to what is the most important thing to do that particular day or week. You are staying busy with all of the right things, academics, concerts (Honor's recital, School Musical) and your own practice. I think part of the process for you next week, will also be an interview from that teacher.
They might ask, "what have you been doing". Be prepared to state what it is the you are doing and with some enthusiasm! They will get the idea quick that you have been busy and you are doing all that you can. Every time you play, whether its for school band rehearsal, Rimshot's or GTCYS Monday evening rehearsal, it's a commitment to being good. Making the commitment and practicing "focus", time and time again as you have is like practicing for marimba solo even though you haven't played the marimba solo in a couple of days.Have a portfolio ready of all the things that you are working on and be ready to say what it is that you have worked on. (GTCYS, Rimshot's, Lesson Repertoire) (I believe you have also mentioned that you are doing Rosauro again with school band, was that later this year or slated for next year?)Part of what these teachers want to see is how you portray yourself. Optimistic, Enthusiastic are two good qualities to show.Commit to the moment and do all that you can with total concentration and you will do great!Having said all of that, maybe we should see if we can get a Skype in sometime in the next day or two. I wouldn't mind hearing and commenting on the rep you are playing for those teachers.

Yes I remember your email. Sorry, I've been really busy at school.
No lesson next week, I'll be out of town on college tours.
Concerning my lessons with Burrit, Rosen, and Zeltzman, it's been finals week this week so I've gotten kinda rusty on some of what I wanted to play for them... because of this do you think it would be ok for me to tell them that I've been on the road for a few days, and I was been really busy with school the week before?
Thanks,
Elan
